Fun with travel! [30 Sep 2005|09:55am]
Hello from San Antonio! Next week we're on travel to my "home" site of Huntington Beach, followed by a week in (probably) Seattle, and then another week (or so) in St Louis. I've probably spent a total of three months in St Louis this year. Long hours and weekend work mean I never get to see the city in the daytime, so I still only know the area surrounding the path between the Embassy Suites and the work site(s), sadface :-(

Of all the places I've been to for business, the best places are Seattle and San Antonio. Seattle is very pretty, particularly if you're lucky enough to be there when the sun is out. San Antonio has the Riverwalk (which I completely missed this time) and some pretty great food. The texmex here kicks the crap out of any mexican food they have in California, though most of the baja style (the kind they have a lot of in California) is healthier and whatnot and stuff and junk.

Business travel, she is a frightening yet exciting beast. And so, a haiku:

Hilton: Gold Status
American: Gold Status
Adventure, I'm here!

Huracán [22 Sep 2005|09:47pm]
So, hot on the heels of Katrina is Rita, and let me tell you: I am worried like the dickens. Along with . and Dynagrip, I know some other people in the Houston area. Like one girl evacuated her house to go to her parents' house along with like 20 or 30 other family members. And then they ended up evacuating that house last night at midnight. And her grandfather died this morning. It really is a mess over there, and the hurricane hasn't even hit them yet! I hope all of you guys will be safe.

Addendum: the brother of the grandfather who died? Yeah, he was on the bus that exploded today. They don't know if he is alive or dead.

A rock [22 Sep 2005|01:55pm]
...and like a slithering desert serpent, whose flicking forked tongue observes the scent of a small, brown mouse; like the ant whose ponderous protection is unseated by a curious five year old with a short attention span; like a hungry ursine giant emerging from a cave after a long, cold winter; like a frightened midwest family cautiously opening the doors of the storm cellar, prepared to survey the devastation; like a moth emerging from a silky cocoon, opening its wings to the breeze and taking its initial flight; like a Starcraft player in a korean internet cafe who has recently run out of soda; I am climbing out from under it.

Hello world.
